Penn State updates for March 15 are heavy on recruiting.

That should come as no surprise. The staff returned from a well-deserved week of vacation during the university’s spring break on Monday. That meant hosting one prospect, offering another, and getting back to work on the electronic communication side of things. And, one senior-to-be put the Lions in his top-12.

In other news, a new staff hire has been made, and some in-house roles have been adjusted.

Read on for information on all of that and much more in the Tuesday newsstand.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the first visitor of March.

Prospects could not visit campus during February because of an NCAA dead period. However, when the real calendar flipped to March 1, the NCAA’s changed to a quiet period. That means coaches can’t go on the road but they can host players.

The timing was not necessarily great for Penn State, however. It didn’t host any recruits during the first weekend it could do so since January because of spring break. But, now that it’s back in town, the coaches welcomed four-star IMG Academy edge Cameron Lenhardt to campus on Monday. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound top-220 player in the On3 Consensus player rankings made his first trip since October. The Class of 2023 talent has already caught up with BWI’s Ryan Snyder about the trip. You can read about it at the link below with a Blue-White Illustrated subscription. Right now, one costs $1 for one year of access.

In other news, Joel Starlings has a top-12. Penn State made the cut.

A 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive lineman from Richmond, Va., Starlings included, in no particular order, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, the Lions, Texas A&M, Georgia, Oklahoma, Noth Carolina, and Virginia. That list does not include Michigan, of course. Starlings decommitted from the Wolverines two months ago. He visited the Tar Heels on March 5. It’s unclear where else he could go this spring and summer, but keep an eye on a Penn State trip popping up.
