Wednesday’s Penn State football newsstand had updates from James Franklin’s Tuesday news conference, recruiting, and more.

The leader of the Lions addressed reporters for the first time during Maryland week to discuss a number of topics. Among other things, those included a backup quarterback update, thoughts on the run game, and a preview of the Terps.

Looking ahead to the future, the Nittany Lions landed a walk-on commitment on Tuesday. They also made the top-five for a top Class of 2023 target.

Let’s get to the top tweets and headlines about Franklin’s team and college football in general on Nov. 3.

We’ll kick things off with a roundup of news and notes from Franklin’s question and answer session via ZOOM.

Maryland coach Mike Locksley and some players also held a news conference on Tuesday, and so we have insight from them, as well.

Moving on to recruiting, we start in the Class of 2022, where the Nittany Lions landed Baltimore, Md., Gilman School preferred walk-on Kolt Pearce.

Pearce was a visitor for the Illinois game and had a hugging exchange with Franklin at midfield during pregame warmups, as did his family. That was the first sign things might end up as they did.

At roughly 6-foot-6, 210 pounds, Pearce has a big frame to grow into. He had a scholarship offer from Navy and walk-on interest from Maryland.

On the Class of 2023 front, Virginia three-star interior offensive lineman Joshua Millers long-promised Nov. 2 announcement was not a commitment. Instead, it was a top-five. It consists of Penn State, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee.

The Nittany Lions and Tigers are believed to be the frontrunners. But, his decision to hold off on deciding means others could enter the mix down the road.

No decision date has been set.

Finally, Westerville, Ohio deemed Nov. 3 ‘Kaden Saunders Day’ in the town. That had to be pretty cool for the Penn State Class of 2022 four-star commit.

Quote of the day

“I asked the coaches to call the game in an aggressive manner, I wanted the players to play in an aggressive manner, and for the most part, we did that.

“Obviously, every game, you’re going to be able to look back and point out things that you want to get better, but there were some positive signs to build on. And again, we got to correct the issues and the mistakes.”
