We start with recruiting. Four-star Baltimore, Md., junior defensive lineman Trent Wilson put the Lions in his top eight on Tuesday. Ohio State, Texas A&M, Maryland, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State and Oklahoma all also made the cut for the 6-foot-3, 260-pound recruit who sits at No. 86 in the On3 Industry Rankings.
“These schools have been doing a good job of recruiting me,” Wilson told On3 directory of recruiting Chad Simmons. “They’ve shown they’re interested in me and shown interest in my family. Some of the schools I went on campus and visited, and it was definitely a family environment. They’ve been consistent in recruiting me and letting it be known how interested they are in me. Each of the schools has put top D-linemen into the league, and that’s why they’re in my top eight.”
The nation’s No. 9 defensive lineman is fresh off a visit to Penn State. He wants to make a commitment in July. The Lions have plenty of appealing factors in their favor. They currently lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

“They have a lot of DMV guys and coaches up there,” Wilson said. “So they can relate a lot to me, and the effort they show when I come on campus is impressive. A couple times when I come on campus, the whole coaching staff is there just to meet me. And that meant a lot to me. They just show they really want me, and that means a lot to me. The players they put into the NFL and how they play at the collegiate level is also impressive.”

Quote of the day
I know Coach [Stacy] Collins left, but he did a good job in the initial phase of recruiting. Of course, Coach [Phil] Trautwein did a really good job. I think he related to Owen because he was a similar type of player coming out of high school. He’s also recruited other guys that have similar body types and frames. I think that was something that encouraged Owen. Also, just the overall direction of the program. I think their concept of togetherness and family and just the overall culture that Coach [James] Franklin has built were all things that attracted him to Penn State and made it a good fit.”
