Penn State drops a few spots in final College Football Playoff Poll
Penn State and most other college football teams enjoyed some much needed rest and relaxation this weekend. With just the conference championship games taking place Friday and Saturday, there wasn’t a ton of moment in the final College Football Playoff Poll. However, those that did move around all happen to rank right around Penn State.
So, with the Nittany Lions not playing this weekend, plus conference championship wins for teams like Clemson, Utah and Kansas State, James Franklin’s team dropped a bit in today’s final College Playoff Poll, moving down three spots from No. 8 to No. 11.
Although there won’t be another CFP Poll after the bowl games, a win in the Rose Bowl would assume that the Lions finish in the top 10 in both of those polls. Penn State actually dropped a few spots in the AP Poll, too, falling to No. 9 overall. They remain at No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.
In addition to announcing the College Football Playoff earlier today – No. 1 Georgia will face No. 4 Ohio State in the Peach Bowl, while No. 2 Michigan taking on No. 3 TCU in the Fiesta Bowl – the remaining New Year’s Six Bowls have also been announced.

The Orange Bowl will be the first game this year, kicking off at 8 pm ET on Dec. 30. Fittingly, two teams known for their bright orange uniforms, Clemson and Tennessee, will face each other in this year’s game.
Kansas State and Alabama will face each other at Noon ET the following day in the Sugar Bowl. That game leads into this year’s CFP semifinals. Most expected Penn State to end up in the Cotton Bowl a few weeks ago. Instead, USC is headed to Dallas to face a Tulane squad that won the AAC this year.
