Penn State OL Alex Birchmeier named On3 Consensus five-star
Penn State received a major boost following the release of the updated On300 Monday. With three new players added to the list and just one dropping off, the Nittany Lions jumped from nine On300 prospects to 11 following today’s announcement.
While that didn’t change where they stand in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings – Penn State has ranked eighth nationally since LB Ta’Mere Robinson’s commitment Friday – it did strengthen their overall average, which will have an impact on keeping the Nittany Lions within the top 10 nationally come December.
The other major event to come out of today’s movement took place in the On3 Consensus ranking, as Penn State’s Class of 2023 once again features a five-star player in offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier. Because the consensus rankings equally weigh all four major recruiting services – On3, 247Sports, Rivals & ESPN – Birchmeier has hovered right around the top 30 for months now.

Birchmeier was previously named a five-star in the On3 Consensus back in April but dropped out when he moved just outside the following month to No. 34 nationally. He’s now ranked No. 28 following small moves at 247 and On3. There are 32 players in the Class of 2023 who hold a five-star ranking.
Coming into today, Penn State held commitments from 14 four-star players in the class. That number now drops to 13 with Birchmeier moving up. The staff remains in a strong position with multiple four-star prospects, too. Players like offensive linemen Evan Link and Stanton Ramil, linebacker Kaveion Keys and defensive end Jalen Thompson all remain real options in the class. All four rank within the On300 following Monday’s update.
