Penn State picks up commitment No. 11 from Florida DB Conrad Hussey
Penn State picked up a surprise commitment Monday afternoon, as Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., safety Conrad Hussey announced via Twitter that he committed to the Nittany Lions.
Listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, Hussey came on a visit to Penn State just a few weeks ago, April 8. The St. Thomas Aquinas prospect then set an official visit for June 17-19, but elected not to wait, committing this afternoon.
“Conrad really had a great time at Penn State when we were up there,” said St. Thomas Aquinas defensive back coach Ron Hardge, who’s also Hussey’s godfather. “They showed him a lot of love. He got to see the locker room and they spoiled him, walking around on campus and things like that. So, the atmosphere was great. He seemed to really like it and I’m behind him 100 percent with his decision.”
Over the past year, Hussey earned nearly 20 scholarship offers. Hardge said there were a few schools seriously in the mix.
“Florida State and Colorado were both there,” Hardge said. “Iowa just came in, but things were already kind of heading in a certain direction. Indiana and Pittsburgh were also in the mix.”

Like so many prospects that have come to Penn State from South Florida, Ja’Juan Seider played a massive role in this commitment.
“He was pushing hard,” Hardge said, referring to Seider. “He had a lot to do with it. Manny Diaz was also involved here, for sure. Just being able to talk with Conrad, I think they connected with him.

“[Penn State] doesn’t have any Florida guys on that back end [secondary], if I’m not mistaken. Conrad wants to be a part of that. He wants to be one of those guys. It all worked out well for him. I think it’s a great situation, and we’re going to trust the process.”
Hussey has been timed at running a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, bringing some solid speed to Penn State’s secondary. He also just started running track this spring and is already running a 10.9-second 100-meter.
According to the On3 Consensus, Hussey is a three-star prospect, ranked No. 447 nationally. He’s the 44th-ranked safety and No. 79 in Florida.
The Nittany Lions have now added four commitments in April. Another Florida native, quarterback Marcus Stokes, committed on April 8. The other two were tight end Andrew Rappleyea, April 3, and edge rusher Jameial Lyons, who just committed this past Friday, April 22.
Hussey is the second defensive back to commit to Penn State’s Class of 2023, joining Lamont Payne. Payne is expected to play cornerback, while Hussey will focus on safety.
