Penn State DL target Tyriq Blanding set to announce Saturday
Penn State could be on the verge of another commitment in its Class of 2023. After picking up athlete Yazeed Haynes this past weekend, it now appears as if the Nittany Lions could be closing in on another player along the defensive front in New York City native Tyriq Blanding.
Fresh off an official visit this past weekend, Blanding announced Tuesday evening that he’s set to announce his decision this upcoming Saturday, June 18. Because of that, I logged a new pick for Penn State in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine Tuesday evening. My confidence score is 80 percent.
“Last time I went there, I just saw the stadium. This time, I got to see the whole thing, and it was great,” Blanding told BWI on Monday.

“This time I got to see the whole coaching staff. I got to spend more time with everyone. They really liked me, my personality, and they like the way I play. They like my height and weight and they see me at three-tech. I think Penn State would be a really good fit, and my mom and family could watch me play.”

Since April, Blanding has visited five additional schools. He went to Michigan April 2 before seeing Syracuse April 18. He then flew out west to see Oregon, Oregon State and Washington April 21-24. Penn State also hosted Blanding in March. He was expected to take an official visit to Michigan later this month, but that appears to be unlikely now.
According to the On3 Consensus, Blanding is a three-star prospect with an 85.00 rating. Our scouts at On3 rank him higher with a score of 89. That’s just outside of four-star status.
If Blanding does commit to Penn State, he’ll be the third defensive lineman in the class. Mathias Barnwell is expected to play defensive tackle, while Jameial Lyons will start out at defensive end.
