New Penn State pick logged on On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine
Penn State is hosting five official visitors on campus this weekend, four of whom they’re hoping to add to the Class of 2023. If all goes to plan, James Franklin and his staff would like to see at least two commitments coming out of this weekend, with three being a real possibility.
Earlier this week, Sean Fitz and I logged picks for Penn State to flip one of the players on campus this weekend in defensive end Mason Robinson. A three-star prospect from McDonogh in Maryland, Robinson committed to Northwestern back in May, but following a 1-11 season, head coach Pat Fitzgerald has made multiple changes with his staff, giving Robinson a reason to look around.
But Robinson isn’t the only defensive end that Penn State sits in a strong position with, as St. Thomas More’s Joseph Mupoyi is another realistic option. A native of Congo, Mupoyi has only been playing football for two years now, but he’s already proven to be a special athlete. While he still has plenty to learn, Penn State believes he has the potential to blossom in the years to come.

“He’s just an all-around amazing athlete,” said former NFL WR Josh Morgan, who coached Mupoyi at Archbishop Carroll. “Whatever school gets him is getting a steal. He’s eager to learn, physically gifted, athletically gifted and he doesn’t have any bad habits because he’s just learning. When he gets to college he won’t have to unlearn any bad habits he’s picked up anywhere else.”

Throughout the process, Mupoyi and his coaches at both Archbishop Carroll and St. Thomas More have stressed two key factors in his decision: education and proximity to his mother, who lives in Washington, D.C. That works in Penn State’s favor, and is a big reason why I logged a new pick for the Nittany Lions to land Mupoyi in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine Saturday morning.
Mupoyi holds a four-star rating by On3. He’s a three-star prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings, which equally weigh On3, Rivals, 247 and ESPN. That ranking puts him at No. 515 nationally, No. 44 at his position and No. 4 overall in Connecticut.
The Nittany Lions currently hold commitments from 19 players in the class, ranking 14th nationally and No. 2 in the Big Ten conference.
