Penn State drops a few spots in both the Coaches Poll & AP Top 25
Penn State has two losses on the season now, although both are to two of the nation’s top overall programs this year. Nittany Lion fans would rather their team rank among the nation’s top five like Ohio State and Michigan, but if you’re going to lose to the very best, it doesn’t hurt you in the polls nearly as much. That was evident Sunday when Penn State dropped just three spots to No. 16 in both the Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Top 25.
That’s the same spot that the Nittany Lions dropped to following the loss to Michigan a few weeks ago. It also keeps Penn State in a good position to earn a New Year’s Six Bowl birth if they win out.
Of course, Illinois is also going to have an impact on Penn State’s postseason position, as the Illini have now surpassed the Lions at No. 13 in the Coaches Poll and No. 14 according to the AP. We’ll learn more about that Tuesday night when the The College Football Playoff Ranking is set to be released for the first time.
