The Penn State offense under first-year coordinator Mike Yurcich has been enigmatic this season.

Averaging just 26.5 points per game, the Nittany Lions produced an explosive passing performance Saturday night at Ohio Stadium against a Buckeyes defense ranked among the nation’s best. Led by 361 yards passing, however, a key interception and two key fumbles, one of which was returned for a touchdown, helped sink the hopes of Penn State late in the game.

All of that, of course, on top of a rushing performance of just 33 yards on 29 carries for the game with 20 yards on 13 carries leading the way by transfer running back John Lovett. As a result, the Nittany Lions’ offensive identity has been very hard to pin down not just against the Buckeyes but all season.

That is until today.

Host of the BWI Daily Edition Thomas Frank Carr is joined by Blue-White Illustrated senior editor Nate Bauer to discuss exactly what Penn State is with quarterback Sean Clifford and the pieces that surround him. Coming off a 33-24 loss to the No. 5-ranked Buckeyes, that examination comes into focus with four games left on the program’s regular season schedule.

T-Frank looks at the number of drives this season where Penn State has had to methodically work the ball down the field versus the times where they’ve had a quick-strike touchdown and the results were surprising.

With that information in hand, T-Frank and Bauer discuss the players involved and how this offense has been shaped into what it is by the situation and talent at hand.

Do the Nittany Lions have enough game-breaking talent on offense? What steps need to be taken for Penn State as a program to get there? Could answers already be on the roster?

With Maryland up next, Thomas Frank Carr and Nate Bauer discuss these topics and more in the Monday edition of the BWI Daily:
