Penn State news and notes for Sept. 28 include a national honor for the Lions’ offensive plus updates from the practice field and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a note on the Lions’ offensive line. The entire Penn State unit won the Joe Moore Pancake Block of the Week award Wednesday for their domination of Iowa defense on a sneak play in last weekend’s 31-0 shutout of the Hawkeyes. The Joe Moore Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive line in college football at the end of the season. It hands out weekly awards en route to that. The organization said that an entire unit has never won its weekly recognition until now.

“Not a whole lot of people talk about our offensive line, they did not give up any sacks; that’s huge as well,” Lions coach James Franklin said after the win.

In other news, Penn State coach James Franklin spoke after practice Wednesday night. Before that, the team opened practice to reporters. Links to those takeaways are below.

“Nothing has changed,” Franklin said about the team’s freshmen redshirt plan moving forward. “We have the guys that we had as green that we’re going to play. [For] those guys, the model hasn’t changed. We’re going to continue to play those guys.

“The guys that we would characterize as yellows, as of right now, those guys are staying yellow unless we get some bumps and bruises that we have to kind of change their status. I think it’s also, we’re trying to be as strategic as we can. The play early and then maybe hold and save some games for late in the season.”

Quote of the day

“I was able to talk with the coaches a bit. My relationship with the coaches is progressing really well over time. I talk mostly with Coach Traut, [Chris] Mahon, and [Khalil] Ahmad. I think all of those guys have great relationships with the other players, which is something you really see when you’re around all of them, which I love. It’s definitely a relationship I want to continue building as it gets closer to decision time.”
