Penn State offers Big Ten transfer wide receiver
Penn State got a firsthand look at Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley when the Hoosiers visited Happy Valley in October. On Tuesday evening, the Nittany Lions extended a scholarship offer to the former high school quarterback. MuCulley entered the Transfer Portal last week following the Hoosiers’ dismissal of Tom Allen.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder has one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop. He’s reportedly set up a visit to Kentucky for this weekend and is fielding interest from multiple programs. South Carolina also offered on Tuesday evening. Returning to Indiana is also still in play for McCulley.
McCulley caught four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown against Penn State in the Nittany Lions’ 33-28 win back in October. He went 69 yards for a score early in the second quarter when the Penn State secondary left him all alone following a miscommunication.
McCulley was an All-Big Ten honorable mention pick as a junior in 2023. He finished with 48 catches for 644 yards and six touchdowns. He’s a big-bodied receiver that closed the season strong and he had an 11-catch, 137-yard, two-touchdown performance against Illinois in November.
Penn State, who entered the Portal cycle with wide receiver as a top priority, have now offered three wideouts publicly. North Texas receiver Ja’Mori Maclin and former Washington State wideout Josh Kelly both claimed offers in the last week. The Nittany Lions are looking at a host of players at the position.

Our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways. We have articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal, a dedicated transfer portal Twitter account and the On3 Transfer Portalwire.
The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal rankings, their original On3 Consensus recruiting rankings, plus NIL valuation.
While the transfer portal officially opened for business Monday, Dec. 4, for undergraduate players, grad transfers and those who went through a coaching change have been available to contact. Schools have also been allowed to contact players from FCS and Division II programs.
This specific transfer portal window runs through Jan. 2, 2024, but it is important to note that a player doesn’t have to make his decision by that deadline. They just have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one is up to them. A second transfer portal window will run following spring practice, April 15-30.
