Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 17 include a new recruiting offer plus a major wrestling decision and more.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a new recruiting offer. Penn State moved on Class of 2025 linebacker LaVar Arrington II this week. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound son of Nittany Lion great LaVar Arrington holds 10 offers so far. He plays for Charter Oak High in Covina, Calif.

In other news, a Penn State wrestling lineup decision has been made. Alex Facundo, who started at 165 pounds for the Lions last season, will redshirt this season. Head coach Cael Sanderson revealed the news to reporters from PennLive, the Centre Daily Times, and The Daily Collegian during his weekly media session on Thursday afternoon. It means that newcomer Mitchell Mesenbrink, who was a Wisconsin prep star and went 3-0 at last week’s Journeymen Collegiate Classic in Bethlehem, Pa., will be the starter at that weight class this season.

“Just keep getting better, wrestle, get matches; he’s very motivated, driven, and talented,” Lions coach Cael Sanderson said when asked about the starter at 165 last week. “All those things will play out here in the next month.”

Mesenbrink joined the Lions this offseason after going 2-0 at Cal Baptist last winter.

“I’m just ready to have fun,” Mesenbrink said last week. “It’s just going to be great. It’s fun that it’s finally here, that the season’s here. We train every single day. When you put in perspective, that one match is minuscule compared to the amount of time we spend in the training room, it kind of just; you realize that it’s not as big as everybody cooks it up to be. But, it is really fun.”

Quote of the day

“We’re working through that. We’ll sit down at the end. There’s some things we have to sort through. He’s done a great job. I can’t say enough about Riley. Similar to Dae-Dae and Alex Felkins, they’ve gotten better every week. He’s able to flip the field. Excited with where he’s at and looking forward to finishing the season strong.”
