Penn State officially lands signature of transfer wide receiver Kyron Hudson
Penn State’s first commitment from the Transfer Portal this cycle has put pen to paper, sources confirmed for On3 on Thursday morning. Former USC wide receiver Kyron Hudson has been officially listed as signed in the Transfer Portal and will likely be announced by the Nittany Lions in the near future. Hudson announced his commitment to Penn State on Monday after taking an official visit on Sunday.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Hudson caught 38 passes for 462 yards and three scores for the Trojans last season. His biggest output came in the season-opener against LSU, where he hauled in five passes for 83 yards and produced the biggest highlight of his career with a terrific one-handed catch between a pair of LSU defenders that went for a 24-yard gain. Later in the game, he pulled down another one-handed grab down the sideline that not only drew a targeting flag after a big hit, but also set the Trojans up for the game-winning field goal.
The Nittany Lions saw him firsthand when he caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown against them back in October. His long reception of the year went for 39 yards against UCLA in a game in which he posted six catches for 79 yards. He finished his USC career with 72 receptions for 807 yards and eight touchdowns.
Hudson “can be a leader” for Penn State’s wide receiver room
Hudson started nine games for the Trojans last season, including the season-finale against Notre Dame. He has one year left to play at the college level. He was a well-respected leader for the Trojans the last couple of seasons.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Hudson is listed a the No. 47 wide receiver in the Transfer Portal according to the On3 rankings, drawing a three-star rating in both the On3 and On3 Industry rankings.

“There are zero questions about Hudson’s work ethic or attitude,” said WeAreSC.com’s Erik McKinney. “He’s a guy who can be a leader for Penn State’s position group, in the offense and for the entire team. As a receiver, he always felt like a guy with a low ceiling and a high floor. He doesn’t wow you with any specific trait in terms of size or speed or athleticism, but he’s been a pretty dependable guy.
“This year was really interesting because USC had a couple of younger outside receivers who were clearly more athletically gifted, but the coaches kept running Hudson out ahead of them and Hudson ultimately took 130 more snaps than any other outside receiver.”
From an eligibility standpoint, only Julian Fleming is out of time among the Nittany Lions wide receivers. Penn State has been active at that position in the Transfer Portal beyond Hudson, and that is expected to continue. BWI’s Nate Bauer looked ahead at the Nittany Lions’ situation at wide receiver on Wednesday.
