Penn State officially signs Texas A&M transfer TJ Shanahan
Penn State has officially signed its fourth transfer portal pickup. Former Texas A&M offensive lineman TJ Shanahan put pen to paper with the Lions on Monday, On3’s Pete Nakos reports. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound interior offensive lineman committed to the team on Friday. He played in 10 games and started five for the Aggies last season. He can play guard or tackle, and his versatility is a key reason why head coach James Franklin and his staff pushed to land the Orlando native. They have now officially done so.

What is Penn State getting in Shanahan?
Here’s what Blue-White Illustrated film analyst Thomas Frank Carr writes in response to that question:
“Athletically, Shanahan is already on par with [current Penn State center] Dawkins, if not superior. Another year of offseason development and training under Trautwein would allow him to compete with Dawkins and potentially unseat the vet. Yet if that doesn’t come to fruition he’s still a quality guard prospect both in the short and long term. If the team sticks to its plan to play Cousins at the center when the time comes, Shanahan will allow the team to move players around the interior as he can play all three spots.
“Regardless of how the plan shakes out, Shanahan projects as a high-quality starting Big Ten offensive lineman with the upside to improve upon an already impressive baseline.”

Dawkins must decide to come back for another season, of course. And, Sal Wormley is moving on from his starting guard spot. Earning a first-team job is not a guarantee but it is possible that Shanahan does so.
