Penn State officially welcomes transfer portal additions Trebor Pena and Amare Campbell

Penn State officially announced the addition of two spring transfer portal window pickups on Tuesday as the first summer semester kicks off in State College Former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena and one-time North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell are on campus and ready to roll as the push toward preseason camp continues.
Pena was the first of the two to commit to the Nittany Lions. He did so on the day of the Blue-White game in late April. Receivers coach Marques Hagans made the Ocean Township, N.J., 2024 second-team All-ACC pick a priority after he hit the portal back on April 15. He caught 84 passes for 941 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024 and has a career stat line of 109-1,212-10 over 40 college games. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Campbell picked Penn State on May 6 after hitting the transfer portal on April 22. He has three seasons to play two in State College. He brings 90 tackles (13 for loss), 7.5 sacks, and a forced fumble with him to State College. Adding him became a necessity once the Lions lost Ta’Mere Robinson to USC in the middle of spring ball. After that took place, Franklin made clear that finding a replacement was something the program hoped to do. Campbell fit what it was looking for.

“As you all know, we aren’t a big portal team. But we’re going to address some issues,” Franklin said on April 26. “If there is a linebacker out there that wants to be a part of our program and play for LBU, the most historic linebacker program in the history of college football, there’s an opportunity to join the room. I think we have enough in the room, but getting through a season with potential injuries could be challenging. We’re going to look in the portal soon and see if we can find a solution.”
