Penn State football has officially made what should be its final hire ahead of the 2024 season. The Nittany Lions have been looking for an assistant video director for Director of Coaching Technology Jevin Stone’s award-winning staff. If you feel like you’ve read that sentence before, it’s because you have. The program’s previous video director, Joe Loosemore, left this offseason for a promotion on Manny Diaz’s staff at Duke. Stone initially hired former Kyle Lane away from Georgia to fill Loosemore’s role. But, after a short stay in State College, he left for a job with the Carolina Panthers. That, of course, opened the position again. Now, however, it is filled again.

Penn State’s new assistant video director is Blake Yunker. He joins the Lions after two seasons at Syracuse. Before working for the Orange, he spent time at Kent State. His online bio at the ACC school offers a look at his career background:

“Yunker is responsible for the filming and breakdown of all practices and games at Syracuse, managing student video assistants and coordinating film exchange with opponents,” Yunker’s Syracuse bio read.

“While with the Golden Flashes, Yunker served in a similar capacity for two seasons. Before that, he was Temple’s video Coordinator from 2019-20. Yunker was also part of the Northern Illinois football program in 2018 that captured the MAC Championship.  A graduate of Concordia University at Ann Arbor, he got his start in college football by working with the Cardinals’ staff as a student assistant in football operations and recruiting for four seasons.”

More on Stone’s staff at Penn State

Stone enters his 13th season at the helm of Penn State’s award-winning video staff in 2024. The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Stone the 2023-2024 Video Coordinator of the Year. It also recognized him and his staff as the 2023-2024 Motivational video award winner for its pre-Maryland hype video. And, it named the clip head coach James Franklin tweets when he shares that a new commitment comes in the short social category winner of the year. You can watch it in the embedded tweet below.

Stone’s staff has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best in college football. Much of their work is regularly viewed. But, they do their work behind the scenes with little fanfare. It is an important job within the program, though, which means Penn State will have no shortage of strong applicants. That is true both the first and second time around in this offseason’s hiring process.
