Penn State picks former Boise State kicker, Auburn staffer Eric Sachse to fill special teams analyst role
Penn State has made another offseason addition to its off-field support staff. The Lions have hired former Boise State kicker and Auburn special teams analyst Eric Sachse for the same job in State College.
Sachse made 61 of 62 extra points and 14 of 17 field goals during his one season with the Broncos, although his path did not cross with current Penn State special teams coordinator Stacy Collins, who was with the program in 2021.
Before he transferred to the Mountain West School, Sachse made 29 career field goals at Trinity College. He spent the last two years on ‘The Plains’ with former Boise State coach Bryan Harsin in an off-field role.
Per a job listing posted on the Penn State jobs page, Sachse will be asked to “organize, coordinate and perform special teams analysis of practices, competition and future Penn State opponents.” He will also prepare film of special teams recruits for Collins to review. And, he’ll help coordinate player visits.
The Nittany Lions now have two special teams analysts. The other is Eric Raisbeck. He enters his fourth season as a member of James Franklin’s staff.
Penn State adds another staffer with Mid-Atlantic ties
Sachse is the fourth staff addition this offseason who has Mid-Atlantic ties. He is from Connecticut, where he was an all-league selection at Cheshire Academy. Off the gridiron, he was also once tabbed as the Western New England Baseball Player of the Year.

Besides Sachse, Penn State picked up D.J. Bryant and Khalil Ahmad in its recruiting portion of the support staff earlier this year. The former is from Maryland, while the latter is well-known throughout New Jersey.
Finally, new receivers coach Marques Hagans has terrific ties in the fertile recruiting grounds of Virginia.
“We’ll have Marques recruiting in Virginia, and that state has been very good to us,” Penn State coach James Franklin said last week. “So we’ll continue to do that but obviously Marques is going to have to take on some other responsibilities too besides Virginia, but that factors into it, there’s no doubt about it.
“I think if we can hire people that are from the footprint, it helps with the transition where if you hire somebody that’s got no experience in the footprint and it takes them a year to get comfortable or to build those types of relationships, then you don’t get the return on your investment maybe as early as you hope.”
The news of Sasche’s addition comes on the same day the Lions lost multi-year analyst Ken Whisenhunt to Alabama.
