Penn State picks up commitment from elite 2027 wide receiver Khalil Taylor

Penn State picked up a massive in-state commitment Saturday from Seton LaSalle wide receiver Khalil Taylor.
Earlier this week, Taylor was ranked among the nation’s top 2027 prospects by On3, coming in at No. 16 overall nationally and No. 2 overall at the wide receiver position. He was primarily recruited by both regional recruiter Terry Smith and wide receivers coach Marques Hagans.
During his first two seasons at Seton LaSalle, Taylor played a variety of positions, including quarterback and running back. This past fall, he finished with more than 1,200 all-purpose yards and 21 offensive touchdowns while also taking back two kick returns for scores. As a freshman, he had just over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns.
“When I first saw him, I thought he was going to end up at a school like Alabama playing free safety. That’s how good he is on defense,” said Seton LaSalle head coach Tim Storino. “But he also loves offensive football and he’s dangerous with the ball in his hands.”

Storino went on to add, “I’ve spent 20 years coaching and I’ve coached at the Divison I level. I’ve never really seen a player go up and get the ball like him. The timing that he has when it comes to when to stop, when to jump, which hand to go up and get the ball with, it’s all very impressive. He has big hands and can catch it with one hand, but it’s really his timing and his ability to go get the ball that stands out the most to me.”

Taylor totaled 18 scholarship offers leading up to today, and Penn State was among the first schools to make that move back in November 2023. He visited State College nine times, including just this past Thursday.
Last summer, Taylor ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash while camping at Rutgers. He also made the PIAA state championships as a freshman running the 100-meter. His best time so far is 10.9 seconds, and that should only improve this year.
“He’s a year younger for his grade. He should be going into the 10th grade next year and will be a 17-year-old graduate, so there’s so much growth and development to come with Khalil,” Storino said. “That’s the exciting part with him. With the speed training we’re doing and the stuff he’s doing on his own, he’s only going to get faster.”
Penn State now has three commitments in the 2027 class, all of whom rank among the Top 40 players nationally in the On300. Running back Kemon Spell is the No. 1 ranked running back. Offensive tackle Layton von Brandt is currently ranked No. 6 overall for his position.
