We start with a postseason awards update.

Penn State corner Joey Porter Jr., is a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award. It goes to the nation’s top defender. The Nittany Lion has been playing like one all season. He frequently knocks down passes and often isn’t even targeted by an opposing quarterback.

“I think to date, Joey’s had a really good year,” Penn State cornerbacks coach Terry Smith said recently. “I think he’s deserving of the accolades that have come his way so far.

“He’s worked really hard to become a student of the game and to understand pass concepts that are coming at him, to understand the individual matchup of a receiver versus him and the routes that that receiver is capable of running at him.”

Quote of the day

“I think I have a responsibility to the guys in the locker room as well as the coaches to give us the best chance to win as many games as we possibly can,” Franklin said. “What you would like to do at the same time is getting better and building for your future. I hope that you can do those two things together. I don’t think they’re exclusive of one another.”
