Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 6 include a look at the spring’s most impactful transfers, headlines of the day, and more.

Penn State tweets of the day

On3 national college football reporter Pete Nakos recently ranked the 10 most impactful spring transfer portal window players. New Penn State receiver Trebor Pena made the cut. He checks in at No. 7 after leading the Syracuse pass catchers in 2024.

“Penn State finished its College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Notre Dame without a single completed pass to a wide receiver,” Nakos writes. “The lone catch from a wideout was a three-yard loss on a lateral on the game’s final play. Penn State has revamped its receiver room, headlined by the spring portal addition of Syracuse transfer Trebor Pena. Bringing in Pena gives quarterback Drew Allar another veteran and proven passing-game target. Pena finished 2024 with 84 receptions for 941 yards and nine touchdowns, earning second-team All-ACC honors.”

Two players Penn State will face in 2025 also made the list. New UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava is No. 1 while Ohio State edge Beau Atkinson is No. 9.

“Iamaleava threw for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, throwing only five interceptions while rushing for 358 yards and three more scores,” Nakos writes. “He started every game for the Volunteers in 2024, leading them to their first berth in the College Football Playoff. Now he will try to resurrect a UCLA program that has not won 10 games since 2014.”

Quote of the day

“I feel they have so much success because of the culture that comes with being a Penn State football player. They all know what it takes to be great and with a great coach like Franklin leading the charge and really caring about everyone on the team and striving for success each year and setting a high standard for everyone.

“I’ve also built a good connection with Terry Wiggins since January when we were both up there for a junior day and building it from there seeing each other at other visits, so going in with a guy that I’ve built a bond with is also a great thing.”
