Penn State news, notes, and updates for Sept. 14 include intel from the Lions’ latest practice, plus an update on Amani Oruwariye after a scary incident at an NFL practice, a new recruiting offer, and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Lions alum Amani Oruwariye. The current New York Giants defensive back and practice squad member left the team’s practice in an ambulance on Wednesday after he “was placed on a backboard and carted off the field after a special teams kickoff drill,” according to the New York Post. Fortunately, all tests came back negative and the former Nittany Lion later tweeted that he was doing well.

“[He] suffered a neck injury during practice today,” the Giants said in a statement to NJ.com. “He had movement in all his extremities and was taken to Hackensack Medical Center for further evaluation. The results of the evaluation and testing were negative, and Oruwariye was cleared to return to the team’s facility.”

In other news, Penn State held its latest open practice on Wednesday. You can see our observations from practice in the links section below. Later in the evening, head coach James Franklin addressed reporters for the second time this week before his team takes on Illinois. One of the topics of conversation focused on which members of the roster would be part of the 74-man travel contingent for the road Big Ten contest.

“Typically, we announce those on Thursday even to the players,” Franklin said. “They don’t even completely know yet, because those last two or three spots are based on practice and how practice goes, and obviously if somebody tweaks something, then we got to make some moves and make some changes. So that’s usually pretty fluid until Thursday morning after the staff meeting, typically.”

Elsewhere, Penn State offered Michigan State Class of 2024 offensive line commit Andrew Dennis. The Mount Pleasant, Mich., native is a four-star in the On3 Industry Rankings. He stands 6-foot-4, 285 pounds.

Quote of the day

“I said to Ja’Juan [Seider] today, that it looks like Potts is just getting more comfortable. More comfortable within the offense, more comfortable in terms of just kind of how we do things around here. And, I see him practicing better and better and better. So, we got three guys that we got a lot of confidence in, [and] some young, exciting guys behind them.”
