Penn State prospect Mason Robinson highlights at Under Armour camp
Few schools have a closer relationship with Penn State football than McDonough high school in recent years. The list of players over the years is growing exceedingly lengthy, but in the fall, the Nittany Lions will have four McDonough products on the roster. Senior defensive tackle PJ Mustipher, his redshirt junior counterpart D’Von Ellies and junior linebacker Curtis Jacobs make up the veteran representation, while five-star freshman Dani Dennis-Sutton adds his name this summer. But will there be another next year? That’s the question for unranked edge defender Mason Robinson.
On Sunday, Robinson was one of the top 5 defensive linemen at the Under Armour camp in Baltimore, and he caught up with Blue White Illustrated after he finished his day. Check out his highlights below.
Mason Robinson at UA Next
Robinson was arguably the best technician of the group on Sunday in a stacked group of Mid-Atlantic talent, including four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu (the D-line MVP of the camp), ranked 83rd in the nation by On3. He was one of the “final five” at the camp who participated in the last set of one-on-ones after being chosen by the coaching staff at the event.
He showed great quickness and hand usage through the bag drills portion of practice, which carried him into several decisive wins against fellow Penn State commit Anthony Donkoh during one-on-ones. That same technical skill shows up on film for Robinson at McDonough. He can turn speed into power and bullrush tackles to get pressure quickly, or he can use speed to get upfield. On top of that, he plays with great awareness, sniffing out screens and quick passes. Both Dennis-Sutton and Robinson credit their defensive coach for their on-field maturity and technical skills.

“Coach Daniel Yarborough is his name. We’ve been working with him for two years now,” Robinson said after the event.
Indeed, the only issue for Robinson is his weight. He said that he’s currently between 220 and 225 but is working hard in the weight room to get bigger. There’s still time for him to develop, but he doesn’t seem to have the massive frame to carry 250+ pounds easily. Time will tell if that is incorrect or not.
Continuing the McDonough pipeline to Penn State?
Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder logged a pick for Penn State in Robinson’s recruiting earlier this month. An unranked player to be a Penn State target in such a deep class should tell you something about his upside. Robinson said he’s taking an official visit to Penn State on April 9th and wants to wrap up his recruiting before his senior season. While he spoke very highly of the Nittany Lions and their staff, he said that recruitment is still open.
