Penn State has planted its flag in the fertile recruiting territory of the DMV in recent cycles. Predictably, the sentiment remains as the Nittany Lions wrap up their Class of 2023 efforts.

Tuesday, the Washington Post formalized Penn State’s dominance in the region.

Announced annually, the Washington Post All-Met football teams included Penn State commitment, Tony Rojas, as its Player of the Year. Additionally, offensive linemen Alex Birchmeier and Anthony Donkoh earned honorable mention nods.

The three players are all expected to sign letters of intent to play for Penn State on Wednesday.

Summarizing Rojas’ selection as the media outlet’s Player of the Year, the Washington Post pointed to the linebacker’s outstanding performances game in and game out.

“He had plenty of chances to leave Fairfax for an established football power. Instead, the senior stuck with the program, helping build the Lions from perennial also-rans into one of Virginia’s most feared teams. The future Penn State linebacker was the best player every time he took the field this fall, accounting for 2,239 rushing yards and 35 rushing touchdowns (to go along with 13 sacks and five forced fumbles on defense), all while leading his Lions to a 13-1 record, a state semifinal appearance and arguably the best season in school history.”

Rated as a four-star in the On3 Consensus, Rojas is ranked No. 97 nationally. Also, he is the 8th-ranked linebacker in the country, and is the No. 2 player in Virginia.

Penn State All-Met honorable mention picks

His future teammate, Birchmeier, is No. 1. But, despite his place as one of the most dominant offensive linemen in Virginia this season, Birchmeier landed a spot only as an honorable mention pick for this year’s All-Met.

Birchmeier is rated as a four-star in the On3 Consensus. Also, he is ranked 50th nationally and No. 3 among all interior offensive linemen.

Another future Nittany Lion, Donkoh also managed a spot as an honorable mention pick. Donkoh is No. 273 in the On3 300 and carries a four-star rating. The scout is considerably more favorable by On3 evaluators than others in the industry. Donkoh with a three-star standing in the On3 Consensus.
