Penn State news, notes, and updates for Aug. 8 include where three Lions rank among the nation’s top college football players, headlines of the day, and more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a look at Pro Football Focus’ top 50 college football players. Three Penn State players made the cut. Cornerback Kalen King leads the way at No. 11. Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu is No. 14. And, defensive end Chop Robinson is No. 19.

“In a recent interview with PFF, Kalen King said he gets offended when a quarterback throws his way,” PFF’s Max Chadwick writes. “If the signal-callers Penn State faces this season are smart, King shouldn’t get offended too often this season.

“He led all cornerbacks in college football last season with a 93.7 grade in single coverage, and his 16 forced incompletions tied for fourth among Power Five cornerbacks.”

In other news, USA Today took a closer look at each top 25 team in the first AFCA coaches poll. Penn State checked in at No. 7.

“The Nittany Lions took care of everyone on their schedule not named Michigan or Ohio State,” USA Today writes. “Obviously, they’ll have to change that if they want to do damage in the final year of the Big Ten’s current configuration. With Sean Clifford finally off to the NFL, the keys to the offense belong to prized prospect Drew Allar. His primary targets are talented but unproven at the Power Five level.

“But they’ll have help in the form of Nicholas Singleton leading a deep running back corps and a veteran line featuring Olu Fashanu at left tackle. The defense, which was the best in the Big Ten in several categories, must replace some key parts, but edge Abdul Carter is back to lead what should be a formidable pass rush.”

Quote of the day

“I have a great support system back home and it took a lot of personal reflection and, you know, talking to the parents and everything, and I felt like my time was up in Minnesota and I kind of wanted a fresh start. Coach Franklin, Coach Seider, and Penn State give me the opportunity to come home and play in front of Pennsylvania, my home state, and my family, and things like that. It was a great choice for me. I felt right I made that decision.”
