Penn State is one of five schools with three players on the two Walter Camp preseason All-American teams that were released on Tuesday. Nittany Lion senior running back Nick Singleton is on the first-team team along with defensive tackle Zane Durant. And, guard Vega Ioane is a second-team selection.

Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, Penn State, and Texas each had three players on the prestigious list. The postseason version of it is one of the five used to determine consensus All-American status. Additionally, the Tigers, Crimson Tide, Nittany Lions, Ohio State, and Notre Dame each had multiple first-team selections.

Singleton returns to help lead a backfield that includes classmate Kaytron Allen. The duo has already rushed for nearly 6,000 combined yards so far as Nittany Lions, in addition to 56 total touchdowns. Both decided to come back for a final season in 2025 instead of leaving for the NFL and are aware of their team’s high expectations this fall.

“No, we’re not at all [scared talking about competing for a national title],” Singleton recently told On3’s Pete Nakos. “We always talk about it in this building, just 1-0 every week. The ultimate goal is to win a national championship. But in order to do that, you just have to worry about taking it one game at a time each week.”

As for Durant, he is arguably one of the more underrated defensive linemen in college football. While his stat sheet does not pop as much as some of his peers’ does, his production on tape is matched by few others across the sport and he will have a chance to play himself into either a Day 1 or early Day 2 draft pick this year.

Durant will lead a young stable of defensive tackles this fall. He is receiving plenty of national attention so far this offseason. This is just the latest example of that.

“Everybody knows Zane Durant,” Franklin said earlier this year. “Everybody knows Alonzo [Ford] from last year. And then I think [Xavier] Gilliam, those three guys, and then there’s going to be a battle for four and five, between five or six players. So it’ll be very, very competitive.”

Last but certainly not least, Ioane’s second-team nod is just the latest recognition he’s received this offseason. After drawing plenty of attention last year for at times going in motion across the Penn State formation before delivering a punishing block, his efforts so far are now being recognized for his snap-to-snap work at guard, too.

“Yeah, I mean, in my mind, he’s one of the top guards in the country,” Lions offensive line coach Phil Trautwein said earlier this year. “He’s working. He’s competing. I first played him a little bit of right guard to start the spring ball. And then now he’s back at left guard. So just making sure he’s more versatile. He’s going to play center, so just making sure he can play all three.”
