Penn State is gearing up for a big 2025. On3’s ranking of college football’s top 100 players is the latest indication of that. Five Nittany Lions make the cut. Quarterback Drew Allar is first at No. 22

“He’s yet to put it all together and be a consistent downfield thrower, but Allar has the ingredients to be a very impactful QB this season; especially after how Penn State invested in upgrading its pass catchers,” On3’s Clark Brooks writes. “He is a big passer with a sturdy, durable frame built to do damage from the pocket.

“With a compact release, his downfield offerings hardly require any strain and he can deliver fastballs even without a firm foundation. Plus, he’s shown to be a trusty decision maker that avoids football boo boos. He has a very deliberate style of moving and doesn’t win many footraces. That said, defenders can bounce right off of him; and when he can build up momentum, the ante gets upped.”

Second-year cornerback AJ Harris is next on the list. He checks in right behind Allar at No. 24.

“The former consensus top 100 recruit and top 10 cornerback of the 2023 class is one of the better shadow DBs ahead of this fall,” Brooks writes. “He might not always strive to goad passers into risky throws or yearn to get his jersey dirty.

“But Harris doesn’t mind if his name gets called much – as long as he’s erasing his assignment. And it certainly helps his case knowing he is 1/4 returning corners with a +75.0 PFF coverage grade in both man and zone.”

The other Penn State players on the list are defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton at No. 27 and running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen at Nos. 34 and 100, respectively.

Penn State sits 106 days from kickoff

Thursday marked 100 days until the first college football game of 2025. There are 106 days from Friday until Penn State takes the field opposite Nevada on Aug. 30 at Beaver Stadium. Head coach James Franklin’s team continues to be viewed as one of the top contenders to not only make but possibly win the College Football Playoff after making it to the semifinals a year ago. The team is getting ready for summer workouts after wrapping up spring practice with the Blue-White game on April. Preseason camp will start in late August. For now, player-led workouts and recruiting for the coaching staff are the primary focuses. But, the season will be here before we know it.
