Penn State QB commit Ethan Grunkemeyer picks up All-American invite

It’s been a busy and productive summer for Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer. The newly-minted On3 four-star prospect had a coming out party on the national stage at the Elite 11 in June, and he’ll have another opportunity to compete with the best of the best after his senior season.
On Thursday, Grunkemeyer was invited to take one of six quarterback slots available in the 2024 Under Armour All-American Game. Grunkemeyer announced the invitation on Twitter and he’ll see how the contest conflicts with a planned January enrollment at Penn State before determining his status for the game. If he plays in the game, Grunkemeyer would be the first Penn State quarterback commit to take part in the exhibition since Michael Johnson Jr. in 2019. Sean Clifford played in the 2017 version of the game.
Penn State commit a big riser this summer
Grunkemeyer was recently elevated to four-star status by On3 after a strong performance in the Elite 11 in Los Angeles. He finished at No. 3 on the On3 event rankings for the week and he now checks in as the No. 10 quarterback nationally.
“Grunkemeyer was perhaps the most pleasant surprise at the Elite 11 Finals,” wrote On3 Scouting Director Charles Power. “The Penn State pledge flashed arguably the most explosive arm action at the event. From early on in Day 1, the ball jumped out of Grunkemeyer’s hand. He easily drove the ball downfield on a line – as well as anyone.
“The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product was the On3 MVP on Day 1 with a very impressive day in drill work. He backed that up with a strong showing during his pro day, flashing loose, coordinated movements to go with his plus arm. Grunkemeyer had an up and down 7-on-7 session on Day 3 but still made a number of high level throws. He showed he could go throw for throw alongside the best quarterback prospects in the cycle.”

Grunkemeyer committed to the Nittany Lions this spring
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Grunkemeyer committed to the Nittany Lions in May after picking up an offer from Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich during the spring evaluation period. Since then, he’s become one of Penn State’s top peer recruiters in the Class of 2024.
“I think Penn State is a great place for a lot of them, not only football-wise but academically,” Grunkemeyer said. “The relationship I built with coach (James) Franklin is great. It is a very genuine place and a great place overall.”
Grunkemeyer now checks in as the No. 203 overall prospect in the Class of 2024 and the No. 13 quarterback in the On3 Industry Rankings. Three of the four major services now consider Grunkemeyer a four-star prospect.
