Penn State quarterback commit Ethan Grunkemeyer named to 2023 Elite 11 class
Another future Penn State quarterback is now apart of the Elite 11 quarterback fraternity. Class of 2024 commit Ethan Grunkemeyer was selected to this year’s class by the event’s organizers on Saturday after the three-day competition concluded on Friday evening.
Grunkemeyer started the contest in the top 10 after day one. But, he fell out of the top 11 following the Pro Day workout on Day 2. However, after performing well on Day 3, he moved back into the top group out of the 20 quarterbacks on hands.
Grunkemeyer is the first Penn State commit to be named to the Elite 11 since Drew Allar was in 2021. Grunkemeyer has every chance to climb the recruiting rankings moving forward.
On3 has a high opinion of Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer as well
In its final rankings of the Elite 11 Finals, On3 called Grunkemeyer the third-best quarterback after the prestigious event.
“Ethan Grunkemeyer was perhaps the most pleasant surprise at the Elite 11 Finals,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power writes. “The Penn State pledge flashed arguably the most explosive arm action at the event. From early on in Day 1, the ball jumped out of Grunkemeyer’s hand. He easily drove the ball downfield on a line – as well as anyone.

“The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product was the On3 MVP on Day 1 with a very impressive day in drill work. He backed that up with a strong showing during his pro day, flashing loose, coordinated movements to go with his plus arm. Grunkemeyer had an up and down 7-on-7 session on Day 3 but still made a number of high level throws. He showed he could go throw for throw alongside the best quarterback prospects in the cycle.”
Grunkemeyer is currently ranked as the No. 474 player overall. He is the No. 28 passer, and No. 17 Class of 2024 recruit in the state of Ohio. He is a three-star in the On3 Industry Rankings.
“Grunkemeyer’s a guy who, for us in terms of the rankings, he’s an 89 right now. He’s in that next tier of guys who are on the cusp of being a four-star,” Power told BWI.
“So we’ll be kind of looking to see how he stacks up with the guys who are four stars currently. Then, when we get into his senior year in a couple of months, that’s when we’ll really drill down on where they all stack up.”
