FanDuel Sportsbook is the first betting operator to market with a full list of contenders for the honor that goes to the top player in college football. Allar, who is the Lions’ third-year starting quarterback, is tied with Clemson passer Cade Klubnik and Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava for the third-best odds on the board at 11-to-1. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier leads the way at 9-to-1. Texas‘ gunslinger Arch Manning is right behind him at 9.5-to-1. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who has 17-to-1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy, is the only non-quarterback on the initial list.
Penn State’s last and only Heisman Trophy winner is former running back John Cappelletti. He took the coveted hardware in 1973. Allar leads a Nittany Lions offense that is returning starters under center, at running back, and along the offensive line.
In other news, Pro Football Focus is one of the many media outlets that released an early 2025 top 25 on Tuesday. The Lions are at No. 4. Only Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State, respectively, are ahead of them.

Quote of the day
“Franklin’s inability to beat elite foes is well-documented, but he’ll really have no excuses in 2025. Nearly all of Penn State’s best NFL prospects return, most notably Allar and 1,000-yard rushers Singleton and Allen. Though defensive coordinator Tom Allen departed for Clemson, the unit he left behind is loaded. That’s good because Oregon comes to Happy Valley on Sept. 27, and Penn State plays at Ohio State on Nov. 1.”
