Penn State’s quarterback had his first bad game of the 2023 season where the stats didn’t tell the full story. Drew Allar threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns against the Ole Miss defense. But once again, the offense failed to mount a threat to defense after halftime. He discusses his performance after the game with reporters. Allar focused on taking the positive out of loss

Despite the yardage, Allar struggled to complete passes, finishing with a 49% completion percentage and two turnovers in the game. While Penn State’s quarterback was emotional again after his team’s third loss of the season, he was determined to be positive about learning from the loss and getting back on track.

“We’ve got to find a way to bounce back,” he said.

He noted that it’s how the team responds to the loss that will determine the next step in Penn State’s trajectory this offseason. As for his personal growth, being a more vocal leader is part of what he wants to work on this offseason.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for me to be more vocal. Whether it be communicating with the players or communicating to staff about what we think as players. It’s a great opportunity for me to expand upon my voice and work on it.”

Allar describes his interception early in the game. Despite getting hit on the play, Allar says it was a bad decision more than a bad throw to Omari Evans. He admits that it was a mistake to try that throw.

“I just forced it, stupid mistake. I shouldn’t have gone back to it; I shouldn’t have forced it. I should have ate it [or] get it to an outlet, but Ole Miss played the play well.”

As for the receivers, the team didn’t complete a pass to a wide-out until the third quarter. That’s when Liam Clifford caught a short pass for five yards. Allar explained that while he doesn’t have the full picture, he did target his wideouts in the first half.

“I think the opportunities I did throw to them they got tipped t the line of scrimmage. Their D-line did a good job of getting their hands on the ball. And then I missed some throws that would have been easy completions for us to get easy throws on the perimeter. But I would have to watch the film to give you a crystal-clear answer on that one.”

Penn State finishes the season 10-3.
