Penn State quarterbacks set for Sunday bowling 'battle'
Penn State football isn’t wasting any time in its pursuit of turning up the heat this offseason. And, this weekend, the Nittany Lions will do so by kicking off a formal quarterback competition.
Announced via social media on Monday afternoon, Penn State’s quarterbacks will square off with each other at Bellefonte Lanes. A charitable event put on by Limitless NIL, two teams of five will bowl against each other beginning at 1 p.m. The “Battle of the Penn State QB room” is being put on to benefit the State of Hope Foundation.
Like the just-completed 2023 season, it will also pit the Nittany Lions’ top quarterbacks against one another. As detailed in the announcement, rising junior starter Drew Allar will lead “Team 1” while backup Beau Pribula helms “Team 2.”
Allar will be joined by graduate assistant and quarterback mentor Danny O’Brien, equipment manager Will Lenard, early enrollee Ethan Grunkemeyer, and walk-on Jack Lambert. Pribula, meanwhile, will bowl alongside rising redshirt freshman Jaxon Smolik, walk-ons Karson Kiesewetter and A.J. Locke, and student assistant Josh Consoletti, a former quarterback at Central Bucks South.
State of Hope is the foundation started by former Nittany Lion linebacker Nate Stupar. A non-profit organized to help local youth, low-income families and single parents, the foundation has been serving the State College community since 2016.

Penn State, Happy Valley United partner with Planet Fitness
Sunday’s bowling showcase isn’t the only NIL-related news impacting Penn State this month. Announced last weekend, Happy Valley United has partnered with National Fitness Partners and its 140 Planet Fitness locations throughout the mid-Atlantic and east coast. The pairing will allow Nittany Lion student-athletes to promote Planet Fitness via social media and local appearances.
“Penn State student-athletes dedicate themselves to maintaining healthy habits and a schedule that allows them to compete at the highest level in their respective sports,” said Jen Ferrang of Happy Valley United via press release. “By partnering with National Fitness Partners, Happy Valley United will give Penn State student-athletes a platform to promote healthy habits and affect not only the Centre County area but also their own communities.”
Along with that local promotion, Penn State’s student-athletes will also have the ability to partner with Planet Fitness to give back to their communities with donated equipment.
“We are excited to partner with Penn State student-athletes to bring our Judgement Free Zone® to even more communities,” said Christine Smith, Chief Marketing Officer at National FitnessPartners. “These student-athletes will have an opportunity to find organizations in their hometowns that can benefit from our state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment for improved health and wellness.”
