Penn State receiver Trey Wallace is one of the many Nittany Lions who had a stay-or-go decision to make ahead of the 2025 season. His choice has now been made. The Montgomery, Ala., native will enter the NCAA transfer portal. CBS Sports first reported the news, which has been confirmed by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Wallace, who completed his fourth college season in 2024 and has one more to go, has played plenty over the last three years but never became the true No. 1 receiving threat the Lions hoped he could be. He did lead the team’s receivers this past season though with 46 receptions for 720 yards and four touchdowns. He totaled seven catches for 85 yards in the Lions’ three-game College Football Playoff run. Before that, he caught a touchdown in the Big Ten title game, which was only his second of the year since having two in the opener way back in August.

Through three seasons on the field following a redshirt year in 2021, Wallace has caught 84 passes for 1,221 yards and six touchdowns.

Penn State has already added two receivers through the portal, and now has lost four to it

Penn State picked up former USC receiver Kyron Hudson and former Troy pass catcher Devonte Ross via the NCAA transfer portal in December. It lost Mehki Flowers and Tyler Johnson to it in January, and then Omari Evans and Wallace hit the portal on Tuesday. Those were the first four returning receivers who made their plans for 2025 known. Wallace is the latest to do so. An announcement from Liam Clifford is still outstanding.

More decisions could be coming in the days ahead. The Penn State transfer portal window for undergraduates closed at 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday. But, there is a 48-hour grace period for compliance offices to file the proper paperwork. Thus, Nittany Lions who have not yet graduated could show up in the portal as late as Thursday. The NFL Draft declaration deadline, meanwhile, is set for 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
