Penn State recruiting musings: Is speed getting too expensive?

Let's start with the ending in mind. The story of the 2023 Penn State Football recruiting class is far from over. To consider this class a success, failure, or anything in between is fairly absurd. But that doesn't mean that there aren't trends worth monitoring during the recruiting cycle to see if they bear out in the end. This recruiting class feels very different than the last several cycles, kicked off by the 2022 class that set a very high bar. So far, we've examined the class's recruiting oddities, with four players we designated as wildcards and four more we identified as undervalued based on their current rankings. Today, we'll discuss the players not in the Penn State Class of 2025 and a seemingly emerging trend this year. The team hasn't secured as many high-level athletes as they have in the past three cycles.
