Penn State recruiting staffer Khalil Ahmad announces departure from Lions program
Penn State football filled a new role in its recruiting department last offseason when it hired Khalil Ahmad away from Syracuse. Now, he is moving on after just one season. The recruiting coordinator for personnel and recruiting for the Nittany Lions announced that he is leaving the school Wednesday morning.
“Thank you to the entire PSU and State College community for welcoming me with warm arms,” Ahmad wrote on Twitter. “Happy Valley is a special place. Thank you to Coach Franklin for the guidance, mentorship, and knowledge in my time here. – working for you has been an honor.”
Ahmad has deep recruiting ties in New Jersey and throughout the Northeast. A Delaware State University alum, he broke into the coaching ranks at two high schools in New Jersey between 2019 and 2020. He later spent a year at Rutgers as a player development assistant before going to Syracuse in 2022. Ahmad then came to Penn State ahead of the 2023 season. Now, he will re-join the Orange, which is now under the direction of new head coach Fran Brown, according to multiple reports. The two were on staff together with the Scarlet Knights for one season in 2021 before Brown left for Georgia and Ahmad moved on to Syracuse. Now, they will reunite at the ACC program.
Tracking Penn State offseason changes
This will not be the first, or last, Penn State staff change ahead of the 2024 season. Andy Kotelnicki is in, of course, as the team’s new offensive coordinator after Mike Yurcich was fired before the end of the regular season. The former Kansas play caller brought an analyst with him from Lawrence to State College: Bill Queisert. According to LinkedIn, Queisert has been with the Jayhawks since 2020. He started with the Big 12 school as its assistant offensive line coach. He then moved up to a quality control role. In Feb. 2023, he became an offensive analyst and described his role as “act as right hand for the Offensive Coordinator and assist in the Coaching of Tight Ends and Offensive Line, in conjuction with the development of the offensive unit.”

Besides Yurcich and Ahmad, Penn State will also not have analyst Ola Adams on its staff next year. He is leaving to take an on-field job at Indiana. He will be a secondary coach focused on the Hoosiers’ safeties.
