Penn State football is pushing through what will soon be its final summer workouts as July rolls on and inches ever closer to Big Ten Media Days, which are set for the 26th and 27th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Once those are in the books, preseason camps will kick off across the conference and country.

The work being done now mostly takes place behind closed doors. Lifts and runs organized by the strength staff lead the way. Then, there are player-run drills such as seven-on-sevens for the skill players. Meanwhile, there is one-on-one workouts for the linemen. At the same time, each position group is gathering individually and working on their respective crafts, as well.

With all that said, the program did release a glimpse behind the scenes on Tuesday. A 45-second clip posted to the Penn State football Twitter account shows that power cleans recently took place inside of the recently-renovated weight room inside the Lasch Building. Below, you can catch running back Nicholas Singleton, quarterback Drew Allar, defensive tackle Zane Durant, and linebackers Curtis Jacobs, Tony Rojas, and Abdul Carter, among others, in action.

Penn State players have been pleased with their summer workouts progress

Penn State players were around the midway mark of summer workouts when they spoke at Lift for life in late July. Those who spoke with reporters following it were pleased with how things were going at the time.

“For the whole team, I say competitive,” cornerback and preseason All-American Kalen King said when asked to pick the word that best describes the work put in so far.

“This summer has been real competitive, from every workout, to meeting time and instruction in the morning, everything and everyone is competitive.”

Lions running back Nicholas Singleton was happy with how things were going since spring ball ended, too. He spoke to On3 about where things stood this summer.

“The offseason’s been really good,” Singleton told On3 via Zoom. “We had a great spring with all the players. They’re buying into it. They kind of know, this is the type of year everybody has big expectations for us.

“We just keep our heads down, don’t listen to all the outside noise. Really, just keep working and getting ready for West Virginia.”

Penn State will host the Mountaineers on Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside of Beaver Stadium. NBC will televise the contest.
