Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin speaks to the media at Arizona Ballroom at Camelback Inn on Dec. 29, 2024, ahead of their Vrbo Fiesta Bowl matchup against the Boise State Broncos.

Fresh off a run to the Final Four, Penn State is among the favorites to make a run in the College Football Playoff in the 2025 season. The action doesn’t stop on FanDuel Sportsbook! FanDuel is a new sponsor of our site and our exclusive line provider for all of the games!

It’s never too early to look ahead to next year. While there are still 210 days until Penn State kicks off against Nevada on August 30, the folks at FanDuel are already busy figuring out who will win it all next season. Penn State remains the fifth favorite to win its first College Football Playoff next season. After opening at +900, the line has moved a little with news of retention and the hiring of new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. The Nittany Lions currently sit at +850 to win it all

Fanduel also has Penn State’s win total for next regular season set at 10.5, though the -178 on the under indicates that Vegas thinks the Nittany Lions won’t necessarily top that number. The line for both Ohio State and Oregon is also currently set at 10.5. Notre Dame joins the three Big Ten programs as the only schools listed with a double-digit win total.

Penn State now has just one player left in the portal. It’s former receiver Mehki Flowers, who has not yet picked a school after leaving the Lions earlier this year. Otherwise, all of the other one-time members of the roster have found their next landing spot. Here’s the list:

WR Trey WallaceOle Miss
Tyrece Mills: UConn
WR Omari Evans: Washington
DT T.A. Cunningham: Garden City Community College.

Players will again have the chance to leave Penn State or come to the school when the 10-day spring transfer portal window opens this year. So far, the Lions have landed six transfers who all arrived for the spring semester. That group includes receivers Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy), one-time Texas A&M defensive lineman Enai White, former Texas A&M offensive lineman T.J. Shanahan, one-time Michigan defensive lineman Owen Wafle, and safety King Mack, who returns to PSU after spending one season at Alabama.

Penn State has yet to set a date to start either spring practice or winter workouts. It is among the favorites to compete for next season’s Big Ten and College Football Playoff titles, though. And, some media members even call it the nation’s No. 1 team entering the 2025 season, which will mark James Franklin’s 12th in State College. It starts opposite Nevada on Aug. 30.
