Penn State safety Ji'Ayir Brown accepts Shrine Bowl invite; recapping Lions' transfer portal window day one: Newsstand
Penn State news and notes for Dec. 6 include a postseason opportunity for Lions safety Ji’Ayir Brown, plus a day one recap of the new transfer portal window and its impact on PSU plus much more.
It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with a note on Ji’Ayir Brown. The former Lackawanna College standout who raised his profile at Penn State will next play in the Shrine Bowl. An annual all-star game, it is a way for NFL Draft class members to get more recognition before the Combine, including but not limited to earning a late invitation to the Senior Bowl. However, Brown, who was a unanimous third-team All-Big Ten pick by the coaches and media, already earned that opportunity. So, now he will play in both games by choice to get in front of as many NFL scouts as possible in the leadup to the selection process.
In other news, Penn State lost only one new player to the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday: Corner Jeffrey Davis. He announced his decision to move on from the Lions on the first day that undergraduates could go into the portal. Others, like quarterback Christian Veilleux and defensive end Rodney McGraw, previously singled that they, too, would be leaving but could not officially enter until Monday.

Quote of the day
“If I had a group of assholes on my team, don’t come to watch them. I wouldn’t enjoy watching them either. That’s not who we have,” Shrewsberry said. “We have good kids, we have kids that are working hard in the classroom. And we have kids that are doing things in the community for people.
“We play a style of basketball that’s fun to watch, we play hard as hell in every single possession. We’re just competing. If you can’t appreciate that, I don’t know what you want to appreciate, I don’t know what you want to watch. Tomorrow, I’ll be begging.”
–PSU men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry on Monday when talking about the need for more fan support during home games at the BJC.
