Penn State safety Tyrece Mills officially plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal
Former Penn State safety Tyrece Mills will enter the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that news on Tuesday morning, roughly 15 hours after the former Lackawanna College recruit was no longer listed on the Nittany Lions’ roster. He made 17 tackles and had an interception over his couple of years with the team in State College. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Mills departs a Penn State safeties room that returns Zakee Wheatley at one starting spot. The first-team job beside him to replace Jaylen Reed will feature a battle that includes a number of returning players, including Dejuan Lane, Vaboue Toure, and Lamont Payne Jr., among others, plus transfer portal pickup King Mack, who was of course with the team two years ago and is now returning after a one-year stint at Alabama. The Lions continue to pursue former N.C. State safety Bishop Fitzgerald in the transfer portal, as well.
Tracking the Penn State portal losses so far
Seven former Penn State players have hit the portal either before or after the 2024 season ended. Only two of them, tight end Jerry Cross and quarterback Beau Pribula, have found their next college home as of 12:45 p.m. ET on Jan. 14. Here’s the full list:
TE Jerry Cross: Entered the portal Dec. 9. He picked Memphis on Dec. 21.
DT T.A. Cunningham: Entered the portal Dec. 9. Has yet to pick a school.
QB Beau Pribula: Entered the portal on Dec. 16. Comitted to the Missouri Tigers Dec. 22. On Dec. 23, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Pribula signed a seven-figure NIL deal with the Tigers’ collective.
