Penn State football moved in the On3 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings by adding Kenny Woseley, a three-star cornerback from Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia, Pa., to the fold. It represented the second addition of the week to the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2024 with its fourth verbal commitment.

But it also represented a slight dip in the Nittany Lions’ team score. Formerly owning a per-recruit average of 89.58, and a team score of 89.382 with the No. 18 ranking nationally, Penn State’s standing took a small step back in all three categories.

Checking in as a three-star with a score of 87.84, Wosely is ranked nationally at No. 530, the 48th corner in the country, and the 17th-best prospect in Pennsylvania. Those marks moved Penn State’s pre-recruit average down to 89.15, with a team score of 89.148. As a result, the Nittany Lions fell behind Wisconsin to the 19th spot in the rankings.

Woseley chose Penn State over the top four of Michigan, Nebraska, and Rutgers.

With the verbal, Penn State’s Class of 2024 now consists of two On3 Industry Ranking four-stars and two three-stars. The four-star prospects include offensive lineman Cooper Cousins and linebacker Anthony Speca. The three-star prospects include Woseley, a cornerback, and linebacker Kari Jackson.

From the revised rankings following Jackson’s commitment earlier this week, the Badgers and Nittany Lions were the only programs to swap spots. But, that included a change within the On3 Industry Ranking itself.

While the On3 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings take the input of all of the major services in the recruiting industry in its algorithm, those being On3, 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN, its unique aspect is a baseline number of commitments to use in producing its ranking score. The goal is to present a comprehensive picture of where teams stand relative to their peers each cycle, thereby setting a standard number from which to judge classes.

The number to consider on Tuesday earlier this week was three. But, as of Friday afternoon, that changed to four commitments.

As a result, with all four of Penn State’s verbal commitments included in the baseline, it expands the pool. Other programs currently ranked above Penn State with fewer commitments included in the algorithm are No. 3 Ohio State (3), No. 8 Louisville (2), No. 10 Michigan State (3), No. 15 Auburn (3), No. 17 Texas (2), and No. 18 Wisconsin (3).

An updated look at the Big Ten

Keeping an eye on the conference, the swap with Wisconsin in the national rankings also meant a swap in the Big Ten recruiting standings.

Leading the way in the conference, Ohio State is holding down the top spot with one five-star and two four-star commitments. Michigan State is second with three four-stars. Michigan is third with four three-stars and three three-stars. And Wisconsin is next at No. 4 with a four-star and a pair of two-star commitments.

After Penn State at No. 5, Southern Cal, Nebraska, Iowa, Rutgers, and UCLA round out the top 10. Maryland, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois finish off the conference. Indiana does not yet have a ranking without a commitment.
