Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 14 include a new 2023 offer, plus a men’s hockey update and more on the Lions’ upcoming matchup with Michigan on the football field.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about PSU and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with news that Penn State sent out a new Class of 2023 offer on Thursday night. The Lions are now in the running for Mount Vernon, Ga., Montgomery County running back Cameron Wallace. The 6-foot, 180-pound senior picked up his first Big Ten offer from Indiana earlier this year. Michigan State joined the mix on Oct. 10. And now, Penn State is in play.

According to the Statesboro Herald, Wallace plays quarterback for his high school team. So far, most of his work has come on the ground during his team’s 4-3 start, which makes sense considering his projected college position. He’s thrown for a pair of touchdowns but rushed 85 times for 826 yards and 11 scores, per MaxPreps.

Penn State currently has one running back committed in the Class of 2023. It’s Scranton Prep four-star London Montgomery, who is out for the year with an ACL injury.

In other news, the Lions’ men hockey team picked up its third win of the season on Thursday night. After sweeping Canisius last weekend, head coach Guy Gadowsky’s side topped Mercyhurst 6-3 at Pegula Ice Arena. Penn State had six different goal scorers in the win, and goalie Liam Souliere stopped 20 of 23 shots sent his way. Game two of the series is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Mercyhurst.

Quote of the day

“We’ve had some physical games. So the time off was good. And then to get a head start on Michigan, this is a really good football team we’re playing. So the head start was good.

“I think we’re in a good place. We gotta go play. It’s gonna be challenging. They’re a really good football team on offense, defense, and special teams. You’re talking about a top-five football team, and the environment. It’s gonna be a Maize Out. It’ll be 110,000. We went to Purdue, it was a Blackout. We went to Auburn, it was an Orange Out. And now we got a Maize Out. So we’re the -Out team, I guess. But it’ll be a great environment. We’re looking forward to it.”
