Penn State senior Beau Bartlett is the Big Ten wrestler of the week. It marks the 11th time this season that a Nittany Lion has won either that honor or the freshman of the week award from the conference. The 141-pound multi-time All-American ascended to the No. 1 spot in InterMat’s rankings back on Tuesday following a weekend that saw him knock off former No. 1 Jesse Mendez of Ohio State by decision a week ago today before beating ranked Illinois grappler Danny Pucino last Sunday.
“I think there were some differences, obviously,” Lions coach Cael Sanderson said when asked about Bartlett’s approach against Mendez this time around following losses in the pair’s last two meetings.
“But you know, within a match like that, we’re looking at like, ‘Hey, we’re going to meet again here in two weeks [at Big Tens], and again at the nationals, potentially. So, we got to just keep getting better and figure out what Beau can do. They’re going to be small adjustments, obviously. And they’re going to make adjustments. And, that’s what makes it fun.”
The Nittany Lions close out their regular season schedule tonight. They host American at 7 p.m. ET at Rec Hall. It will stream live on B1G+.

Quote of the day
“We wanted to get these guys going. We had to find different ways to get going here and create some some juice. And I thought the press did that. I thought for most of the game, we played the right way. I thought we really shared the basketball today. We really attacked and really shared the ball. That ball was hot today.
“I thought we set the tone of the game with our defense in the full court to the half court, and I thought that got us going.”
