Penn State news, notes, and updates for Dec. 20 includes another successful night for the wrestling team, plus a new football commitment and more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. The Nittany Lions swept their first day of the Collegiate Wrestling Duals on Monday night in New Orleans. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team racked up seven pins en route to a blowout win over Central Michigan, 50-3. Then, Penn State topped top 25  North Carolina 37-3. It leads to a date with No. 5 Iowa State on Tuesday night in the blue pool final.

“I know they got a lot of young guys that are energetic,” Cody Sanderson told the Penn State Sports Network.

“They have some attitude, and they feel like they’re supposed to be out there and be on top. So those are fun teams to wrestle. We’re really looking forward to it. There’ll be some big bouts tomorrow.”

Penn State won 18 of 20 bouts on the night. And, over the two matches, it racked up eight pins.

In other news, Penn State football landed its latest Class of 2023 commitment on Friday. Three-star Georgia running back Cameron Wallace picked the Lions over Georgia Tech and others. The Mount Vernon, Ga., Montgomery County senior is a speedster. He stands 5-foot-10, 170 pounds.

“It was a really good visit,” Wallace told BWI after his official visit to see the Lions in November. “They have great personalities. I never saw any negativity in anything they were saying. Everything they said was just the truth. They’re a very honest staff. It was really cool seeing everything there.”

Quote of the day

In the end, family is everything to me. Penn State showed that on my visits. It wasn’t just once either, but on all my visits. They also texted my parents, my grandparents. They were consistent from the start. It just felt like home.”
