Penn State will be hosting a transfer defensive tackle for an official visit this weekend. Former Texas State Bobcat Davon Sears confirmed on Friday morning that he’ll be in Happy Valley starting on Saturday.
“[I’m] visiting Penn State,” he said. “On the 7th and 8th. They have a great culture and they are fixing to compete for a national championship.”
Sears put Penn State in his top three along with Oklahoma and Tennessee on New Year’s Day. He visited both programs this week during the open window for midyear transfer players.
Originally from Center Line High School in Detroit, Sears attended Ellsworth Community College before transferring to Texas State in 2021. He was a First-Team All-Region pick in Junior College. In 12 games at Texas State in 2022, Sears recorded 15 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Former Bobcats defensive coordinator Zac Spavital gave some insight on why Sears is being highly recruited in the Portal at Texas State’s preseason media day.
“You come out of spring and I was really, really pleased with where Davon Sears was,” Spavital told the San Marcos Daily Record before the season. “He’s a guy that redshirted – probably our most talented guy from just a numbers, athletic, size, speed standpoint – (and) didn’t have much experience at the two position. So (we’re) excited about him, he’s really turned it up (since) the spring.”
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound prospect picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions in December.
