Penn State adds another coveted wide receiver target to official visit list
Penn State continues to stack official visit dates with many of its top remaining Class of 2025 prospects. On Tuesday, wide receiver Lex Cyrus and offensive lineman Marcus Garcia confirmed that they’re planning official visits for June. Now, another top wide receiver target for head coach James Franklin and the staff has confirmed his plans in Florida native Samari Reed.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Reed picked up an offer from Penn State last May and then visited for the first time in February. So far, his official visit to State College, which will take place June 7-9, is the only official that he’s confirmed publicly.
However, he has taken a few other visits in recent weeks, checking out Clemson on March 9 before going to both Ole Miss and Mississippi State earlier this week. He also told Blue White Illustrated last month that Florida, Missouri and West Virginia were a few schools standing out.
“One thing I liked the most is that Coach Franklin pushes for kids to get real majors and not just things to play football,” Reed said following his visit. “They also have the second biggest stadium in college football and the fourth biggest in the world.”

Like so many recruits, Reed’s relationship with Penn State’s staff is what kickstarted all of this.
“He’s a very real person who keeps it straight up with you,” Reed said when asked about wide receivers coach Marques Hagasns. “But also, he shows you that he cares for you. Also, Coach [JaJuan] Seider is cool, just like the rest of the coaches. He comes and covers Broward [County], so I’ve gotten to know him more than the other coaches. But Coach Seider is a very cool person to be around.”
In addition to Reed, Penn State has locked in official visits with eight other wide receivers who are currently uncommitted. In addition to Cyrus, who will visit May 31 to June 2, the Lions also plan to host Baltimore native Romero Ison and Houston native Kelshaun Johnson that same weekend. California native Phillip Bell and Baltimore’s Jeff Exinor will visit the same weekend as Reed, June 7-9.
Penn State also has visits set with Taz Williams Jr. (June 14-16), De’Zie Jones (June 21-23) and Naeshaun Montgomery (June 21-23). Currently, the Nittany Lions hold just one commitment at the positon from New York native Lyrick Samuel. He’ll take his official visit the same weekend as the rest of the committed players, June 14-16.
