Penn State All-American and projected top five pick Abdul Carter will not workout at the NFL Combine this week at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. His agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, told ESPN the Philadelphia native was only recently given the OK to return to training after suffering a shoulder injury during the Lions’ College Football Playoff game with Boise State.

“Penn St. DE and potential No. 1 pick Abdul Carter will not work out at the combine because he has not fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered vs. Boise State, according to his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey,” Adam Schefter wrote on Twitter. “Carter played through the injury vs. Notre Dame in the semifinal playoff game, but only recently was cleared to resume training.”

The report adds that Carter just resumed training after being cleared by Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas who examined him in Texas earlier this month.

“We fully expect Abdul to be recovered in time to work out at his pro day at Penn State and he will perform at a very high level,” Rosenhaus said, per Schefter. He adds that Carter will go through interviews and physical exams in Indianapolis.

Carter was a game-time decision against the Fighting Irish after suffering the injury against the Broncos. He did play and then declared for the NFL Draft afterward.

Penn State Pro Day is set

The other news nugget from Schefter’s tweet is that Penn State Pro Day is March 28. And, Carter is to workout there, as Rosenhaus’ quote notes.

Penn State will have five former players at this year’s NFL Combine. Safety KJ Winston Jr., could join Carter in not working out. He missed almost all of the 2024 season, of course, with what Schefter previously reported was a partially torn ACL. Besides those two, Lions linebacker Kobe King and tight end Tyler Warren are also in Indianapolis for the Combine this week.
