Penn State came into Saturday’s game against Maryland ranked No. 9 in the country according to the Coaches Poll. With each of the eight schools ranked ahead of them all winning Saturday, James Franklin and his team will stay in that position heading into this weekend’s Top 10 showdown against Michigan.
The Wolverines, who remain at No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, come into this weekend’s game undefeated at 8-0. They beat a 2-7 Purdue squad 41-13 Saturday night at home. The upcoming game against the Nittany Lions will be their first game against a ranked opponent this season.
Ohio State also stayed in the top five at No. 3 despite a shaky showing against Rutgers. The Scarlett Knights actually led at halftime, but as expected, the Buckeyes pulled away in the second half with four touchdowns in the final two quarters. Ohio State has back-to-back home games against Michigan State and Minnesota before they travel to Ann Arbor for the regular season finale against the Wolverines. Iowa remains outside of the Top 25, but the Hawkeyes earned 57 votes, which was the second most among teams outside the poll this week.
Outside of the Big Ten, Oregon moved up one spot to No. 6, surpassing Texas who dropped down to No. 7 following an overtime win over Kansas State. Oklahoma, LSU and Notre Dame all dropped a handful of spots following losses. The Sooners started the season undefeated but have now lost two in a row and are ranked No. 16. LSU dropped six spots to No. 19 with a loss to Alabama, while Notre Dame dropped 10 spots to No. 22 following a class to Clemson.
