Penn State stays hot, lands four-star edge Cortez Harris
Penn State football is still red hot on the recruiting trail. The Nittany Lions have added four-star edge Cortez Harris to their Class of 2025. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defensive end from Upper Marlboro, Md., Riverdale Baptist committed on the same day his official visit to campus wrapped up. Maryland and Tennessee were his other finalists.
“I talk to them all the time,” Harris told BWI in May. “Between Coach Deion [Barnes], Coach [James] Franklin and all the way down to the guys in the recruiting staff, they FaceTime me and check on me all the time. They’re all great guys. . . it was only right that I planned an official.”
Harris is the third commitment of the weekend. He joins four-star running back Jabree Wallace-Coleman and New Jersey athlete Braswell Thomas. The top-15 Penn State Class of 2025 could add more players to it in the days and weeks ahead as commitment season approaches now that a dead period is underway until late July.
What is Penn State getting in Cortez Harris?
Here’s what BWI film expert Thomas Frank Carr wrote about Harris’ potential:
“The biggest issue for Harris deals with his physical tools. He’s he’s enough to play at Penn State, but does he have special skills to make him a lead rusher? Harrris is quick and has a good burst off the line, but he doesn’t jump off film like some other players Penn State has recruited. He’s also 6-2 with good, but not great, length for the position. At the moment, he plays with much better technique and skill than most of his contemporaries, but what happens when they catch up to him at the next level? Finding ot testing metrics this summer and seeing if he continues to grow are key elements of his evaluation.

“No matter what, Harris feels like a very good fit for Penn State. He’s a passionate He’snder who plays with the controlled, intelligent aggression you want from a defensive lineman. He’s got the mental makeup and enough skills to make him a quality prospect for Barnes and Penn State.”
