Penn State news, notes, and updates for June 20 include camp honors for Luke Reynolds, Mega Barnwell in the transfer portal, plus much more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. After an impressive performance at the ALL22, which is part of the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles, Calif., Penn State Class of 2024 commit Luke Reynolds is the tight end MVP. It was announced on Monday after the three-day event concluded. The On3 Industry Ranking three-star who is the No. 298 overall player in the nation draw rave reviews from evaluators throughout the week.

“Reynolds was a standout the entire week, too, showing off strong hands and the ability to work different areas on the field and also operate in space,” On3 national analyst Sam Spiegelman writes.

Added On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power after Day 2:

“Penn State tight end commit Luke Reynolds, deserves a tip of the cap for his work on Thursday night. The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder ran a seemingly endless number of routes for the quarterbacks. Reynolds is a top athlete in the combine setting, but showed that twitch can transfer over to the field. The burst, change of direction and ability to finish catches stood out.”

In other news, former Nittany Lion tight end Mathias “Mega” Barnwell has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He did so after leaving the Penn State program earlier this month. The Class of 2023 recruit came to town for spring practice but left before preseason camp. It’s unclear where the Virginia native will look to continue his college football career.

Quote of the day

“Our players are completely bought into the idea that after stopping the run, disrupting the quarterback is really the second key to playing great defense in the way that we do it. They feel that. But, we also feel like there are vast improvements that we can make in our pass rush at all levels that are not always defined even in hurries or sack numbers, just in terms of the number of one-on-one wins that we can get, understanding protections, understanding how to attack certain protections, what offenses are doing to us. Those are things that I hope that we’ll make a jump on this year.”
