Penn State tight end Jerry Cross plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
The first Penn State player who intends to enter the transfer portal once it opens next Monday is making his intentions known before the Big Ten title game. Wisconsin native Jerry Cross will now be looking for a new college football home, his agent, Noah Reisenfeld of YMPAA Sports, told On3’s Pete Nakos.
The former four-star Class of 2022 recruit dealt with injuries during his time in State College. He saw time in four games in 2023, which was his second on campus, but did not record any counting stats. The initial injury derailed his time with the Lions, as he fell behind others at the position. He then received only 19 snaps on offense over three games so far this year, per PFF.
Cross, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, is the first Nittany Lion to make it public that he is going to leave the team. Others could join him in the days ahead, though it feels unlikely with the team set to both play Oregon in the league title game and also make the College Football Playoff. But, it’s also possible that he isn’t the last to do so this week.
Penn State-Oregon starts at 8 p.m. ET Saturday. CBS will televise it.
